Heading to Iona

I’m in Glasgow, catching the train to Oban on the way to Iona.

A busy train station platform with people waiting alongside a halted train. The train features a blue design with white patterns and an accessibility symbol near the door. The platform is covered by a large, arched glass and metal roof, and numerous passengers are either standing, holding bicycles, or walking. The morning or evening sunlight illuminates the scene, creating a warm atmosphere.

This is the first time I have been since I was accepted onto the New Members Programme of the Iona Community. My involvement with the community has been a huge influence on my life over the last couple of years and I’m excited to have the opportunity to join. I’ve been interested in community life for many years, but this is the first time that a community has felt right for me. There’s a lot about contemporary Christian culture that I find difficult, so it has been deeply refreshing to join a group of people who are committed to community life and to values that I share.

I hope to write more about my week on Iona either while I’m there (internet connection permitting!) or when I return.
